Design is the structure of the decision, not just the surface. I work through layout, hierarchy, interaction, pacing, material cues, and edge cases so the user does not have to stop and interpret the object every few seconds.

The goal is not to decorate the idea; it is to make the idea behave. On screen that means clear flows and useful states. In a physical piece it means proportion, fit, reach, visibility, durability, and the small details that make something feel obvious in the hand.

A prototype is not a demo trophy; it is a pressure test. I make the rough thing early enough that it can still be wrong, then put real content, real dimensions, real data, or real material limits against it.

This is where assumptions stop hiding inside clean mockups. The prototype shows what breaks first: the workflow, the tolerance, the print orientation, the button label, the acrylic thickness, the loading state, or the part nobody noticed until it was touched.

The build step turns intent into working code, CAD, cut files, printed parts, or a complete interface. I care about the parts people do not see as much as the parts they do: structure, tolerances, maintainability, naming, and repeatable production.

A finished build should survive normal use, not just a perfect demo path. That means making decisions that respect the future version of the project: the next feature, the next batch, the next customer, the next repair, and the next person who has to understand how it was made.

Refinement is where the noise comes out: tighter spacing, clearer copy, better fit, smoother behavior, cleaner tolerances, faster feedback, and fewer moments where the work asks the user to compensate for it.

I look for the small frictions that make something feel unfinished. When those are removed, the work gets quieter and stronger. The final piece should not feel heavily explained; it should feel like it had to be that way.
